Tips For How To Study Homeopathy

Every student has their own way to study. Some do best with flashcards. Others do best with memorization. But for the serious self-directed student of homeopathy, there are some tips for helping to learn. These are a few ideas that will help a person learn about remedies and really "get them". These tips will help immeasurably and can be used to investigate remedies that are considered for prescribing.

First off, learning should be fun. Any time I set my mind to learning anything, if it is not fun, it will not be as useful. Make your study time fun. Embrace your study time with enthusiasm and imagination. Be light-hearted and free. You will have the best success this way.

Many times I will pick up Materia Medica and just open to a page. Often there will be a very small remedy I know nothing about. I will read everything about this remedy from all Materia Medica sources. First, I will study the substance and everything I can find out about it. Is it a plant, animal,...

Suppression vs Expression in Homeopathy

Many times in treating an individual they will also be doing different therapies from many different modalities.  We also have new clients that have been treated allopathically for decades before coming to the homeopath. Their cases can be quite confusing at times. Most of these clients' symptoms have been suppressed. It can take time to unravel the case. Let's explore suppression and what it really is.

Webster's dictionary defines "suppress" as; to put down by authority or force; subdue; to keep from being known; to hold back. This is the exact opposite of "express" which means "to make known".

As homeopaths, we need to know what the vital force is revealing in order to know dis-ease. Symptoms are the foundation for prescribing. Unlike the allopathic western method of diagnosis that gives suffering a name, the homeopathic approach encourages the expression of the dis-ease so it can be known and treated.

True Healing Takes Time In Homeopathy

One of the biggest myths about healing is that it happens as an event. The belief of most people in the western world is that when they are sick, they can just take a drug, and feel better very quickly and that is the end of it. We know this to be a little different from the homeopathic perspective.

My teacher Vega Rozenberg taught his students repeatedly that "Time is Mercy".  This Kabbalah understanding really does apply to the healing process. It can make all of the difference in how you view a case and proceed when you know this. If you have a clear understanding of what is asking to be healed, then it is easier to know where a person is in their healing process.

I find often that in chronic or constitutional prescribing the client will be feeling much better after some period of time. My expectation is that there is noticeable movement in the case after one month. But many times it is within a few months...

Approaching Death With Homeopathy

As homeopaths, our highest goal is to cure in a gentle way without causing harm. Many times we see miracles of healing. To expect to save a life is a very real expectation for homeopaths. Yet we do not get to choose the length of a person's life or whether they heal or not. Even the best of homeopathy may not always save a life. How then do we treat a person when death is approaching?

There are really only two ways that death comes to visit us; suddenly by trauma or slower as a result of dis-ease. When we are involved in a trauma that is life-threatening always give remedies based on the trauma. If it is not the person's time to leave their life then all attempts to save their life will be utilized by the vital force. Since we do not get to choose it is always best to continue to treat until death does occur. The remedy that may help the best will be for the trauma.

The other way that death can approach is when dis-ease has finally brought the person to their end days. This is...

The Importance of the Skin Eruption

Often, in the course of treatment, I have a client who starts to complain about a skin eruption. If they missed the part of our initial consultation about skin eruptions, the conversation goes something like this:

"Hey Robert, should I go see the dermatologist for this thing happening on my skin. I think I have eczema. Maybe I should get some cream for it. It sure itches." This is when I get to repeat myself and remind them of the importance of skin eruptions.

The skin is the largest and least vital organ of the body. It is also the most peripheral organ, at the most outer surface of the body. The skin can express the most dis-ease and the body can still function and survive. Slight damage to the brain, heart or, lungs can lead to death or severe suffering. But the skin can sustain severe damage and the whole organism can still function.

When we heal, the physical body needs to express all levels of our healing. The vital force needs to be able to push the...

Homeopathy for Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is the most common complication of pregnancy. This occurs due to higher levels of hormones required to maintain pregnancy. Estrogen and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) are the two hormones most responsible. These lead to a variety of symptoms that affect the digestive tract. Due to nausea and vomiting, complications can occur that can be life-threatening to the mother and the fetus if severe and not treated.

Nausea and vomiting can usually be helped by changing the diet or patterns of eating. Eating a bland diet of bouillon or consomme, crackers, and rice may help. Eating before becoming very hungry can also alleviate some degree of the symptoms by keeping small amounts of food in the stomach to palliate the heartburn and nausea.

If nausea and vomiting are so intense that dehydration, weight loss, or other problems develop, the mother may need to be hospitalized and intravenous fluids administered. Heartburn and belching are common because during pregnancy the...

Homeopathy for Glaucoma

Glaucoma is optic nerve damage, often associated with increased ocular pressure that leads to progressive and irreversible loss of vision.  Glaucoma is the third leading cause of blindness and effects around 14 million people worldwide. It happens when there is an imbalance in the production and drainage the of aqueous humor leading to an increased eye pressure.

Normally the aqueous humor, which nourishes the eye, is produced in the ciliary body behind the iris and flows to the front of the eye where it drains into canals between the iris and the cornea. When this process is working normally, the inflow equals the drainage and normal eye pressure is maintained.

In glaucoma, the canals that drain the fluid become clogged, blocked, or covered and the fluid increases pressure and effects the optic nerve in the back of the eye. When the optic nerve becomes damaged glaucoma is the result.

There are two types of glaucoma:

  • Open-angle glaucoma – This is the most common type of...

Homeopathy for Eye Injuries

Homeopathy can offer much help in an emergency situation when the eye has been injured. As with all injuries, it is advisable to seek medical attention at all times. But in the meantime, homeopathy can often come to the rescue and help.

Simple first aid can many times help. When there is something in the eye, it can be helpful to flush the eye with water. If there has been a chemical exposure, loss of vision, or a solid object in the eye, seek medical assistance immediately. There are remedies that can help but the eye is a delicate organ and needs proper physical attention when injured.

There are 56 remedies listed in the Complete 2005 Repertory under Eye; Injury. I will not list them all but will go over a few of the most important remedies to consider in the many different ways the eye could be injured.

  • Aconite – Aconite is often called the Arnica for the eye. It will help heal minor abrasions due to foreign objects in the eye. It can help with inflammation and the...

Homeopathy for a Cough

Winter is approaching for many around the world and with that often comes the season of the common cold. Here are some tips and remedies to keep in mind for helping a cough with homeopathy!

The cough is a natural way for the body to remove phlegm. It should not be suppressed. Each person has their particular expression of their body’s attempts to heal. Giving allopathic cough suppressants will not help their healing process and should be avoided. If some relief for minor throat irritation is needed, try equal parts lemon juice, honey, and warm water. Take a teaspoon at a time and hold in the mouth and swallow to coat the throat. It can be very soothing. Avoid medicated cough drops that have camphor, menthol, and eucalyptus. They can interfere with the healing response to the well-selected homeopathic remedy.

In the case of any infectious disease, watch closely that the cough does not develop into a more serious condition. Cough due to the common cold is...

Remedies for Bug Bites and Stings

With the warmer weather, flowers of every kind can be found around cities and blooming in people's yards. It is really quite beautiful and my favorite time of year. But with this comes the insects to pollinate these plants and other creatures that can bite and sting us. It is always a good idea to have some good remedies available in the event you or someone you know is suffering from a bite or sting.

Anaphylactic shock is the greatest worry for someone having an allergic reaction to a poisonous bite or sting. This is most common after a bee or wasp sting. It is sudden, severe, and possibly fatal if not treated appropriately. Once a person has developed an allergy to the venom, their reaction usually becomes more acute with each reaction.

Symptoms of anaphylactic shock could include an immediate drop in blood pressure, fainting, hives, itching in any part of the body especially ears, mouth and throat, mental confusion, and rapid swelling of the affected part.
